Crime | Steve McNair McNair Wasn't Planning to Divorce: Pal By Kevin Spak Posted Jul 8, 2009 12:00 PM CDT Copied This June 28, 2001 file photo shows Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair and his wife, Mechelle, smiling during a news conference in Nashville, Tenn. after McNair signed a contract extension. (AP Photo/Christopher Berkey, fILE) Robert Gaddy, the longtime friend who called 911 after McNair’s body was discovered, lashed out today at speculation that the late quarterback was getting a divorce. “People need to quit talking about what they don’t know,” Gaddy said. “Mac never said anything to me about he was getting a divorce.” He says McNair and his wife sold their home to buy a new one, not because they were splitting up. Gaddy played with McNair in college, and knew him for almost 20 years, the Tennessean reports. “People can have all the theories they want, but we haven't even put my man to rest yet,” he said. “Show some respect for the family. It’s crazy.” He also defended the mutual friend who found McNair’s body first, but didn’t call police. “The man just panicked,” says Gaddy.
