Hours after making a controversial recess appointment to lead the new consumer protection agency, the president announced three more—this time to the National Labor Relations Board. The move will please the president's pro-union allies and irritate Senate Republicans who were likely to filibuster the nominees, reports the Hill. The appointments—a way for Obama to bypass out-of-town lawmakers—will allow the NLRB to fully function. It currently lacks a three-member quorum necessary to rule on disputes between employers and employees and to create new regulations, explains the Wall Street Journal. Republicans and their business allies say the agency has a pro-union agenda. Two of the appointees were Democrats and one was Republican.
