The US is headed to the Davis Cup finals thanks to Andy Roddick’s victory today. He beat Sweden’s Jonas Bjorkman 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-4, sending the US back home to host the final for the first time in more than a decade. The US will face defending champion Russia for the title, Sports Illustrated reports. Russia defeated Germany in the other semifinal in Moscow.
"If you would have told me I could get through three sets with Jonas without getting broken I would have questioned your sanity a little bit," said Roddick, whose win ended a three-match losing streak against the Swedes at the Scandinavium. For his part, Bjorkman praised Roddick’s game, but added that “the lady in the chair was way too nice to him.”
