Eric Cantor Scoffs at Call for Bipartisanship

Eric Cantor was annoyed by the “rhetoric and lecturing” in President Obama's State of the Union address, and he doesn’t have high hopes for today’s sit-down with GOP leaders, the first of what Obama promised would be monthly meetings. The president has called for bipartisanship before, the House minority whip says. “There are words and promises, and there is delivery,” he tells Politico.

“I’m hoping when he comes to our retreat that we’ll hear a different President Obama and, frankly, a willingness to say, ‘OK, I understand my agenda may not be what the majority of this country wants. Let’s work together,’” says Cantor. But he has already come out against the $150 billion jobs bill Obama proposed in his speech, comparing it to last year’s stimulus bill, which he says “failed miserably.”
