Cliff Lee outdueled former Cleveland teammate CC Sabathia as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Yankees 6-1 to win Game 1 of the World Series. Lee struck out 10 and shut out New York until the ninth inning; fellow lefty Sabathia allowed two solo home runs to Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley in seven innings of work against the defending champions.

Lee, 31, arrived in Philadelphia in a midseason trade, while Sabathia, 29, was the Yankees’ big off-season acquisition. Both won Cy Young Awards with Cleveland—Sabathia in 2007, Lee in ‘08—before being traded. Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday night.
