Right now the world is against balloon boy mastermind Richard Heene, but perhaps everyone will forgive and forget after revisiting five even worse publicity stunts, compiled by Brian Moylan for Gawker:

  • Lauren Cleri: On Fox reality show Moment of Truth, she admitted to cheating on her husband—and didn't even win the cash she was trying for.
  • Tonya Harding: Conspired to attack more-beloved fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan; has since made a sex tape.

  • Harlow Cuadra and Joeseph Kerekes: Gay escorts murdered a porn producer so they could make a porno with his contract star.
  • John Hinckley Jr: Shot President Ronald Reagan to get Jodie Foster's attention.
  • Wallace Souza: Allegedly ordered hits on five people to boost ratings for his reality TV show.
