Palin Needs to Get Serious: Gingrich

If anyone knows what it takes to succeed as an unemployed politician, it’s Newt Gingrich. So Politico asked him what Sarah Palin needs to do to stay relevant and become a presidential contender. The ex-speaker graciously laid out a six-point plan:

• Write a book. Palin already has one in the works. It’ll help her hone, and leisurely lay out, her philosophy.
• Create a national project or center. An energy initiative would do nicely.

• Land a recurring commentator spot on television. A surefire way to stay in the national conversation.
• Get an East Coast condo. Or the commute will be murder.
• Write three types of speeches. One to make money, one for “high-value” addresses to top interest groups, and one standard stump speech.
• Work really, really hard. Anyone can be a celebrity. “She has to decide how serious she wants to be about becoming a national leader.”
