Elton Brand, the one figure of stability for the chaotic and generally woeful LA Clippers, ruptured his Achilles tendon in a routine workout. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Team USA had given him the summer off to nurse recurrent aches and pains. Brand will miss at least the first two months of the NBA season.
It can take up to a year to recover from a torn Achilles tendon, however. The injury comes on the heels of the brutal on-court knee-shattering suffered by Shaun Livingston, a young point guard perceived by many in the league as possessing near-unlimited potential.
