Calif. Gay-Marriage Backers Launch Biz Boycotts

Protesters against California’s newly passed gay marriage ban are registering their opposition by boycotting businesses whose owners or executives supported the measure, the Los Angeles Times reports. Targets, which include a restaurant, health food store, movie theater chain, and car dealership, have been identified using campaign-contribution lists and “outed” on sites like Facebook.

"I think people need to be held accountable for their financial support,” said one LA resident, a former political consultant. But supporters of the measure have railed against the boycotts. “No matter your opinion of Proposition 8, we should all agree that it is wrong to intimidate and harass churches, businesses, and individuals for participating in the democratic process,” said a statement from ProtectMarriage.com.
