A weekend protest in Los Angeles against Iran's government briefly turned chaotic when a U-Haul truck drove into a crowd of demonstrators, reports the Los Angeles Times. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and the driver was taken into police custody, per CBS Los Angeles, which has video from the scene. The incident happened as hundreds of protesters gathered near the Wilshire Federal Building in the Westwood neighborhood, in solidarity with anti-government protests in Iran.
Authorities have not released the driver's identity or said whether he has been arrested or charged. The truck had banners reading, "No Shah" and "No Mullah," slogans opposing both the former monarchy and the current clerical leadership in Iran. Some protesters attacked the driver as police removed him from the truck, the video at CBS shows. One man climbed onto the truck and kicked the front windows, cracking them.
