Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted for her role in facilitating Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of young women and teens, appears to be enjoying her new life at a minimum-security prison camp in Texas, relatively speaking. NBC News shares excerpts of emails sent by Maxwell that it obtained—it does not specify who the emails were sent to beyond noting one was to "a relative"—that detail how Maxwell, 63, is finding Federal Prison Camp Bryan. The Daily Beast reports the House Judiciary Committee first obtained the emails as Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin seeks to dig into what he sees as Maxwell's "VIP treatment." Select lines:

  • "My situation is improved by being at Bryan."
  • "I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderlands [sic] looking glass. I am much much happier here and more importantly safe."
  • "The institution is run in an orderly fashion which makes for a safer more comfortable environment for all people concerned, inmates, and guards alike."
  • "The kitchen looks clean too—no possums falling from the celling to fry unfortunately on ovens, and become mingled with the food being served."

Maxwell's move to FPC Bryan, which typically hosts prisoners who pose the least security risk, has sparked criticism among some Bureau of Prisons staffers, who say sex offenders are rarely placed in such environments. The timing of Maxwell's transfer has also fueled speculation, as it came shortly after she met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in July. Her emails also suggest she has unusually direct access to warden Tanisha Hall, whom she praised as a "true professional." Maxwell's attorney criticized the release of her emails as an invasion of privacy.
