(AP Photo/Jae C. Hong) Bible sales in the US spiked in September following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, reports the Wall Street Journal. According to Circana BookScan, Americans bought 2.4 million Bibles that month—a 36% increase over September of last year and the highest monthly total so far in 2025. Through the first nine months of the year, Bible sales were up 11%, compared to a 1% decline in overall print book sales in the US. The stats suggest that while Bible sales were already on the rise, the Kirk shooting "awakened a lot of people," said Mark Schoenwald, president and chief executive of HarperCollins Christian Publishing. That was especially true for the 18-34 age group, he added. "They started to think about what they believe and why." Sales of study guides also rose, suggesting readers were interested in both the text and its application. Quartz notes that the numbers don't reflect another Bible on the market: a version being endorsed by President Trump that includes lyrics to Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."
