Kerr Captures US Open

Cristie Kerr, who helped pioneer the trend of women golfers turning pro right out of high school, won her first major title at the U.S. Open. Kerr edged frontrunner Lorena Ochoa by making par as the 25-year-old Mexican self-destructed, missing left on critical shots.

Kerr cinched her victory on the 17th hole, when Ochoa missed a putt from 20 feet. Kerr ended up at a five-under 279 and improved to 1-for-42 in the majors, a victory she said she had foreseen: "I saw it all week, the same scene. And it happened."
