Even Trump Wants Kohberger to Say Why He Did It

Bryan Kohberger's sentencing is set for Wednesday, and the families of his four victims will have the chance to address him—Kohberger will also have the chance to speak, though whether he will remains anyone's guess. President Trump has made clear his opinion of what should transpire, writing Monday on social media, "I hope the Judge makes Kohberger, at a minimum, explain why he did these horrible murders. There are no explanations, there is no NOTHING. People were shocked that he was able to plea bargain, but the Judge should make him explain what happened."

Victim Kaylee Goncalves' family voiced their appreciation to Trump for "pushing for justice," saying in a statement to ABC News, "A confession without clarity does not bring peace." NBC News reports people started lining up at 4pm Tuesday in the hope of getting a seat inside the courtroom. Kohberger is set to be sentenced to four consecutive life sentences on the four first-degree murder counts—related to deaths of Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—and a maximum of 10 years on a burglary count. ABC News notes the hearing, which starts at 9am local time, may not wrap up until Thursday.
