McCain's Elite Fundraisers Trump Obama's

John McCain appears to be more reliant on funds bundled by elite supporters than Barack Obama, USA Today reports. More than half of the Republican candidate’s receipts, or more than $75 million, came from donations assembled by about 500 top supporters. In contrast, Obama’s top 500 pulled in about $50 million, about 17% of his total.

High-profile bundlers—including Donald Trump for McCain and Vogue editor Anna Wintour for Obama—earn the name by amassing donations from business acquaintances and friends. “For McCain,” a watchdog said, “it is precisely the wrong message to be so reliant on this tiny set of well-heeled donors.” But Obama’s not off the hook. “It's highly likely he will have a significantly higher percentage of money from bundlers, if and when he matches McCain's disclosures.”
