After a rep for President Jair Bolsonaro rejected the aid package offered by the G7 and mocked French President Emmanuel Macron while doing so early Tuesday, Bolsonaro hours later indicated he actually would accept it—on one condition. The Washington Post quotes Bolsonaro as telling reporters, "Before speaking or accepting anything from France, even if it comes from the best possible intentions, [Macron] must retract his words. Then we can talk." As for what Bolsonaro took offense to, NBC News reports it was comments from Macron about how he is dealing with the fires; the Post gets more specific, saying Macron "threatened last week to block a free-trade agreement between the European Union and Latin America, saying Bolsonaro lied to him about his commitment to the environment." The AP reports Bolsonaro "accused the French president of questioning Brazil's sovereignty." (On Monday, Macron called out Bolsonaro for insulting Macron's wife.)
