Entertainment | HBO Deadwood Lives On, 12 Years Later Long-rumored movie is officially happening By Evann Gastaldo Posted Jul 25, 2018 5:33 PM CDT Copied In this Feb. 9, 2005 file photo, David Milch, left, creator of the HBO series "Deadwood," appears on the set with Larry Cedar, center, and Peter Jason in Santa Clarita, Calif. (AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian, File) Good news for Deadwood fans Wednesday, as HBO confirmed, after years of rumors, that a Deadwood movie is in the works. The Ian McShane- and Timothy Olyphant-led Western drama ended after three seasons 12 years ago in what the Hollywood Reporter calls an "inconclusive" fashion, with conflicting reports as to whether it was originally meant to continue for another season, and Vulture reports fans have been waiting for the storyline to be wrapped up for a while. HBO chief Casey Bloys made the announcement during a TCA session, and didn't give many details beyond the fact that series creator David Milch is writing the movie and it will start filming in October. He says he hopes it will premiere in spring 2019. People were pretty excited about the news on Twitter. (Powers Boothe, who played Cy Tolliver, died last year.)
