Obama Prods Pro-Gun Pa. Voters

Barack Obama is aiming to win pro-gun votes in Pennsylvania by touting the Second Amendment, Politico reports. His camp emailed state gun clubs this week about “the right and traditions of sportsmen" as Obama courted Pennsylvania's pro-gun Democratic lawmakers. The NRA fired back at Obama—and Hillary Clinton, too—calling overtures “scripted rhetorical tricks.”

One sportsman's club exec said Obama, known for backing gun control, is “speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Everyone basically blew it off and weren’t buying it.” But an analyst at a progressive think tank called Obama's move savvy. “Guns are a cultural lens through which they view candidates,” he said. “By handling the Second Amendment correctly, he starts to get a hearing among these folks.”
