Crime | Richard Matt Escapee's Note to Daughter: 'See You on the Outside' Richard Matt had Joyce Mitchell connect with her: official By Arden Dier Posted Jul 3, 2015 10:04 AM CDT Copied In this June 15, 2015, file photo, Joyce Mitchell appears before Judge Mark Rogers in Plattsburgh City Court for a hearing. (G.N. Miller/NY Post via AP, Pool, File) Richard Matt's daughter feared her father would pay her a visit while he was on the lam, and she had good reason to think he might, according to police. "I always promised you I would see you on the outside," Matt wrote in a letter days before his escape, officials tell the Buffalo News. "I'm a man of my word." By the time his daughter opened the note on June 9, her father had already been on the run with David Sweat for three days. Authorities say the woman had no idea of Matt's plans, reports CNN. In fact, she asked for police protection in case he tried to see her. Another interesting note: Officials say prison worker Joyce Mitchell reached out to Matt's daughter at his request, introducing herself as "a friend of your father's." They exchanged calls and texts for months. "Mitchell gave medical updates," one official says. "Nothing about the planned escape was mentioned."
