Entertainment | Netflix Netflix to Become DreamWorks' TV Network Deal will bring host of Dreamworks shows to streaming service By Kevin Spak Posted Jun 17, 2013 10:42 AM CDT Copied Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers, left, and Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas, are shown in a publicity image for the DreamWorks film "Shrek the Third." (AP Photo/Paramount Pictures, file) Netflix made another big splash in its original content push today, announcing a deal with DreamWorks that will see the animation studio create 300 hours worth of original TV shows for the streaming service. The shows will be "inspired" by DreamWorks' existing properties, so get ready for shows based on Shrek, The Croods, and other upcoming movies, the New York Times reports. Some of the shows will also be based on DreamWorks' recently acquired Classics Media properties, which include Casper the Friendly Ghost, Lassie, She-Ra, and Mr. Magoo. The first show, Turbo: F.A.S.T., based on a movie debuting in July, will hit Netflix in December. The move makes strategic sense for both companies; DreamWorks has long been plotting a move into TV, and Netflix not only gets more original content, it gets to compensate for its recent loss of Nickelodeon programming.
