Second IRS Official Is Out Amid Scandal

Another head has rolled in the wake of the IRS scandal: The official in charge of the agency's "tax-exempt and government entities" division will retire in June, reports the Wall Street Journal. Joseph Grant's departure follows the forced resignation of acting commission Steven Miller yesterday. President Obama, meanwhile, has picked Daniel Werfel, the controller of the White House budget office, to be the new acting chief of the agency.

“Danny has proven an effective leader who serves with professionalism, integrity and skill,” Obama said in a statement. “The American people deserve to have the utmost confidence and trust in their government, and as we work to get to the bottom of what happened and restore confidence in the IRS."
