It took Maria Sharapova two easy sets to completely deconstruct Lindsay Davenport's game in the second round of the Australian Open, AP reports. The American's first tough match since returning from maternity leave was over 6-1, 6-3, as Sharapova "was head and shoulders better than I was," Davenport admitted.

In the following match, No. 6 Andy Roddick started strong against German Michael Berrer, and despite tiring in the long third set, powered through to win 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 and advance to the third round. With only 12 unforced errors to Berrer's 45 and just a single double fault, Roddick looked sharper than in his first-round victory over Lukas Dlouhy.
