John Edwards isn't letting a distant third-place finish in the New Hampshire primary get him down, and certainly isn't letting it count him out. "Two races down; 48 states to go," the upbeat Democratic candidate told supporters last night. The Edwards camp projects a resurgence in primaries in the Southern states, reports the New York Times.

The former North Carolina senator heads today to South Carolina to start campaigning for its January 26 primary. Edwards took the state in 2004, and hopes a strong showing there this time will keep him in the race, despite the dominance of the frontrunners. “This day, we have taken steps—not as big steps as we wanted,” said his wife Elizabeth.
