78% shooting in third quarter puts New Jersey away

Detroit's near-65% shooting after halftime carried it to an 18-point victory over New Jersey, reports AP. Richard Hamilton scored 22 points for the Pistons who were also lifted by 17 points and 10 assists from Chauncey Billups. An 11-0 run in the third sealed it. Jason Kidd had 13 assists for New Jersey but missed all 8 of his shots.

"We knew what we had to do after halftime,' said Billups, referring to the Pistons' dominant third quarter, while their coach said: "Once we took control, were able to bring it home." It was their sixth consecutive win and seventh straight game holding opponents below 90 points. Vince Carter had 21 points and Richard Jefferson 18 for the Nets.
