Fiery Sheriff Joe Arpaio Eyes Arizona Senate Run

There could be a new sheriff on Capitol Hill: Joe Arpaio, the fiery Arizona lawman given to calling the feds "liars" with "Mickey Mouse policies," might just be looking to go to Washington, reports the Hill. With Jon Kyl retiring, the immigration hardliner says he's open to running for the seat—if he can bear to tear himself away from his current gig as sheriff of Maricopa County. He's currently running for a sixth term.

"The issue is whether I want to leave this office and go to Washington and try to make a difference there, which I would do if I run and win," Arpaio says. "The door is open right now but, as I said, I'm campaigning for sheriff and raising that money." But, “I think I could do that job."
