In Wacky Election, Wackier Names Rule

In an election cycle in which Karl Rove doomed Lisa Murkowski to failure because Alaskans would actually have to write in her name, one would think that candidates with strange names would suffer. Not so, reports the Wall Street Journal. Some of the highlights:

• Krystal Ball: You might have heard about the Virginia House candidate because of her costume-party prowess, but you won't forget her name, either.

• Young Boozer: You literally cannot make this up. "Funny name, serious leadership," is the slogan of the 61-year-old candidate for Alabama treasurer.
• Isaac Hayes: Not that one. This one is a Republican running for Jesse Jackson Jr's House seat with the slogan, "Give Jackson the SHAFT."
• Rich Whitney: The Green Party candidate for Illinois governor actually has a normal name—until some voting machines dropped the "n" from his surname.
