Politics | Jim DeMint Jim DeMint: Let's Have an 'Earthquake Election' He says Christine O'Donnell, others send Washington a clear message By John Johnson Posted Sep 18, 2010 11:11 AM CDT Copied Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., speaks to the Values Voter Summit, held by the Family Research Council Action, Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) Jim DeMint takes delight in the triumph of Christine O'Donnell and other conservatives in the primaries, declaring it a sign that the message of "everyday Americans" fed up with big government is getting through. It also refutes the notion that voters must play it safe by sticking with so-called "electable" candidates. "Majorities are built on principles, not the other way around," the Republican senator writes in a Washington Post op-ed. "I'm praying for an earthquake election in November that will shake Washington to its core," he writes. "I'm doing all I can to make it happen. And everyone who has been working toward this goal should trust me: All of Washington can hear you now." (Charles Krauthammer thinks DeMint and Sarah Palin should be doing more than just praying.
